Diesel Fuel Efficiency: An Overlooked Energy Issue
April 16, 2009

In the United States, some 10+ million vehicles including diesel powered trucks, buses and boats, consume 24 Billion gallons of fuel at a cost of $50 Billion annually. There are diesel additives to address one or more of the issues common to diesel powered engines: fuel mileage, engine power, gelling, deicing, and engine wear. All of these problems have been made worse by the federally-mandated requirements reducing the content of sulfur in diesel fuel, and with the tremendous dependence on diesel fuel in many different applications, the ability to increase the efficiency of diesel engines is a tremendous potential market. For the year 2007, diesel fuel accounted for about 18% of total refined petroleum products and 82% of the total distillate consumed in the United States (Source: Energy Information Administration).

Alkane, Inc. (OTC: ALKN) uses patent pending and proprietary methodologies to develop, produce and market a range of fuel and fuel enhancement products. The company's first product, Monster Diesel™, is a patent-pending total fuel additive that boosts diesel fuel to premium levels and satisfies all of a diesel engine's needs in one product. Among the most important benefits of using Monster Diesel™ is that it is cost effective for truckers, boaters, bus operators, or home owners who heat with oil. In addition, continued helps to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, issues that have become paramount given the increased level of emphasis on greener technologies and growing concerns over global fuel supplies.

Since September 2004, the price of diesel fuel has been generally higher than the price of regular gasoline all year round for several reasons. Worldwide demand for diesel fuel and other distillate fuel oils has been increasing steadily, with strong demand in China, Europe, and the United States, putting more pressure on the tight global refining capacity. In the United States, the transition to ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel has affected diesel fuel production and distribution costs. Also, the Federal excise tax on diesel fuel is 6 cents higher per gallon (24.4 cents per gallon) than the tax on gasoline (Source: Energy Information Administration). Alkane's patent-pending flagship product Monster Diesel™ offers a tremendous range of benefits to the user. For instance, the product reduces diesel consumption by as much as 15% and is so powerful that when diluted by 250 gallons of diesel fuel, it boosts the Cetane number (equivalent to the octane number of gasoline) by 12.5%, twice the boost of premium gasoline versus regular. In addition, Monster Diesel™ lowers overall fuel emissions by 21% and reduces engine wear by more than 20%.

By June 1, 2006, 80% of the on-highway diesel fuel sold in the United States had to be Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel with a sulfur content of no more that 15 parts per million (ppm), replacing most Low Sulfur Diesel (LSD) fuel, which contains a maximum of 500 ppm sulfur. By December 1, 2010, all on-highway diesel fuel must be ULSD fuel, and nearly all diesel fuel used in the United States will be ULSD by the end of 2014. Monster Diesel™ is so concentrated that just one quart added to two tanks of diesel fuel of a typical 18-wheeler will provide all of the product benefits, and it "completes" the fuel to compensate for the loss of lubricity of LSD and ULSD diesel as well as providing corrosion control in the fuel system.
