See the Light
July 11, 2008

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lighting accounts for nearly 25% of the total electricity generated in the United States. Because it represents such a substantial portion of overall energy consumption, any technology that makes conventional lighting more efficient has the potential to generate tremendous benefits. One of the most easily applied tactics proposed for saving energy while using artificial lighting is for consumers to begin buying energy efficient lighting products such as Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) to replace energy hungry incandescent light bulbs. According to projections made by energy conservation groups, if every home in the U.S. installed just four compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs, we would save the same amount of electricity produced by the six largest nuclear power plants in the world. Just one CFL bulb during the course of its long, energy-efficient life can save a consumer between $40-$50 in utility costs. That same CFL bulb will save 630 pounds of coal from being burned or 51 gallons of oil and also prevent 1072 pounds of CO-2, 7.8 pounds of acid rain and 4.1 pounds of smog from going into the atmosphere.

PureSpectrum, Inc. (OTC: PSPM) is an environmentally conscientious high-technology firm at the forefront of the movement to examine the foundations of the lighting industry with the purpose of developing the technological building blocks that will serve as the cornerstones for the evolution of lighting. The Company owns and licenses energy efficient lighting ballast designs that represent a series of breakthroughs in power conversion technology that will make possible unprecedented control of electrical current within the florescent and HID lighting. Lighting accounts for about 30% of energy usage worldwide, and with ever-increasing emphasis being placed on improving efficiency and energy conservation, the ability to enhance performance is a paramount concern. PureSpectrum has developed electronic ballast technology for ballast-driven lighting applications which will enable the performance evolution of fluorescent lighting applications. The technology was developed specifically to address the needs of end users as the hunt for energy efficiency drives the lighting industry's most significant period of upheaval in decades.

PureSpectrum's patented and patent-pending technology represents a breakthrough in power conversion circuitry that has the potential to accelerate the evolution of fluorescent lighting. Through superior electronics within the ballast design, PureSpectrum Technology enables enhanced functionality in ballast driven lighting applications that have never been possible before. The base science for PureSpectrum Technology is patented technology that creates a perfect waveform by significantly minimizing power line distortion and reducing total harmonic distortion. By minimizing phase displacement and reducing harmonic content, electricity is more fluently channeled directly into a device, eliminating unnecessary heat generation and promoting increased efficiency. PureSpectrum's engineering team has broadened the technology's applicability to include multiple features and benefits across various types of fluorescent lighting applications, including energy efficiency in linear fluorescents as well as dimming capability, light quality, color quality and ignition and illumination delays in CFL bulbs. By examining lighting technology from a fresh perspective, PureSpectrum has been able to introduce previously unattainable performance standards for ballast driven lighting applications.

PureSpectrum owns the rights to a family of patents, patent applications and provisional patents related to proprietary circuitry designs for ballast-driven lighting applications. The company is perpetually involved in new research and development, stretching boundaries and challenging accepted principles in order to continue identifying the ideas that will ultimately produce the most cost effective solutions for improving the way artificial light is delivered. In June of 2008, PureSpectrum was awarded a full patent for a high frequency, high efficiency electronic ballast with a sine wave oscillator, and recently announced plans to further solidify its intellectual property portfolio by filing patent applications for three provisional patents to be upgraded to patent applications by the end of July.
